The collection (00-390) (14 items, dated 2000 and n.d.) consists of several short essays and poems written by girls in the Duke Young Writers' Camp. Student assignments included writing self-portraits in light of stereotypes, memory pieces, and poems celebrating parts of a woman's body. Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture. Addition (00-442)(33 items, dated 2000) consists of 33 short essays and poems written by girls ages 11 to 13 studying at the Carolina Friends School Chamberlain's tutelage. Assignments included describing why they write, memory pieces, exploring stereotypes using a department store as context, and poems celebrating body parts. The addition (01-127) (30 items, .1 linear feet, dated June 2001) consists of poems, short essays, and journal entries written by girls ages 12 to 16 studying in the Duke Young Writers' Camp. Includes 14 journal entries in both poem and prose format produced as part of The Art of Journal Writing class and 6 short essays and poems created for the Writing Women class. Assignments parallel those of the original accession. The addition (01-232) (23 items, .1 linear feet, dated September-October 2001) contains 23 journal entries, many in poetry form, written by girls ages 11 to 13 studying in Chamberlain's Advanced Journal Writing Class at the Carolina Friends School. Topics include self-perception, dream description, likes and dislikes, and responses to the terrorist attacks in the U.S. on September 11, 2002. Addition (02-283) (44 items, .1 lin. ft.; dated September-November 2002) contains 44 journal entries written written by students in Chamberlain's advanced journal writing class at Carolina Friends School. Topics are similar to those in the other accessions of the collection. Addition (03-081) (1 item, .1 lin. ft.; n.d.) comprises an issue of TWISTED, a zine created by four of Chamberlain's students.
